ICONYC Reveals New Web-Based TV Project: ICONYC TV

Lauren Krieger

First show features Slovenian techno powerhouse UMEK.

ICONYC TV is a premier live show event filmed in visually stunning locations around the world featuring the best electronic dance music artists in conversation and playing the music they love. Beginning on November 5th, the first guest DJ is 1605 Records boss, UMEK, bringing his immutable techno stylings to the beautiful city of Kastel Pula, Croatia.

The filming location was certainly something special and not something you’d usually do as a DJ. But it was a lot of fun and I hope viewers will enjoy it as much as I did. As this is not a typical live performance, I hope to reach a broader audience and bring techno a little closer to viewers that are maybe less familiar with electronic music.

The idea is to bring well-known and liked artists from around the world and expose them to a wider audience. Each ICONYC TV show will not just consist of live footage of the artist in question, but will also show them interact off stage in a more intimate way. The interviews are conducted informally, allowing the viewers a uniquely exclusive snapshot into the world of their music heroes in everyday life scenarios, like sitting in a café, talking about their personal life or tech/gear discussions.

Filmed over 20-minute segments, ICONYC TV attempts to introduce a new paradigm in electronic music video, learning about the lives of pioneering artists such as UMEK and Darren Emerson, as well as newer acts such as Stereo Express – each with an interesting and relatable story. Locations confirmed for season one include Berlin, London, Philadelphia, Venice, Rovinj, Amsterdam, Riva Del Garda and Ibiza where the DJs will be playing sets from ornate Baroque palaces to rooftop oasis. ICONYC TV has it all.

Concept creator, John Johnson believes brands these days need to think outside the box to deliver for their loyal fanbase, and in moving into visual media ICONYC will pioneer a new normal for all electronic music labels.

With ICONYC TV, we were looking to deliver something bite-size that similarly delivers to our fans, yet puts the artists themselves in focus. The logistics behind ICONYC TV were pretty complex, but we hope the final result puts a smile on people’s faces. I’m delighted that Denon DJ, Akai Professional and Red Bull, share in our vision and I’m looking forward to a long a fruitful relationship with them.
