FRISKY Talk 013: Guy Mantzur

Lauren Krieger

With an impressive presence behind the decks, Guy Mantzur has been taking the Progressive world by storm, one set at a time. He’s proper Progressive in the old-school sense – bringing a variety of genres together to create a powerful story on the dance floor, one based on beautiful melodies and deep, flowing rhythms that touch your soul and keep you moving all night long. Based in Tel-Aviv, this year has already seen Guy traveling all across the globe, with gigs in London, Auckland, Melbourne, Córdoba, Prague, Toronto, Salt Lake City, Miami, Brooklyn, Marrakesh, Amsterdam, and beyond. When he gets a break from the road he’s hard at work behind the scenes, either in his studio or working on his renowned label Plattenbank, which has been running strong for over a decade. With his own releases on labels like Bedrock, Kompakt, Lost & Found, Sudbeat, Diynamic, Selador, and more, Guy Mantzur’s personal tracks always bring something special to the mix.

I was so happy to have the chance to get to speak with Guy during a quick break in his action packed schedule, and this conversation was a wonderful reminder of what makes the Underground Electronic Music community so special. We talk all about his travels, his favorite places to visit and play, and the countries around the world that are starting to build up huge Underground scenes. It was amazing to hear his experiences on how the scene is growing as a whole, and to get his thoughts on the family that is formed not only between the DJs, but the listeners whose passion for the music never wavers. He provides wonderful insight on facing tough crowds, pushing your skills as a DJ, how he has changed his methods of running his label, and why it’s so important to follow your dreams. We truly cover a wide range of subjects, and throughout it all he gives us a wonderful window into the world of Guy Mantzur.
