FRISKY Talk 009: Javier Portilla

Lauren Krieger

Javier Portilla has been living the nomad DJ life, traveling across the world to bring his deep, mindful music to listeners everywhere. Born in Costa Rica and inspired by the country’s rich electronic music scene, Javier has recently been based out of Barcelona, where he spends time in the studio producing tracks for his own Moonchild Records and labels such as Asymmetric, Mirabilis, KDB, and Natura Sonoris. Last year however, his home was everywhere, moving through Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Burning Man, Los Angeles, and more.

After an upcoming visit to Costa Rica’s Envision Festival and spending time recording the sounds of a local tribe, Javier will be ready to get back into the studio and find that balance between his touring and production life. It was so fun to talk to him about all of his adventures, learning about his experiences playing for different cultures, how the music has connected him with friends around the world, and how yoga has influenced his life. With lots of intriguing projects in the pipeline, this next year will be different yet equally exciting. A light-hearted and entertaining trip into Javier Portilla’s world, I hope you will enjoy listening to this latest episode of FRISKY Talk.
