DAPHNE: A Women’s Movement In Dance Music to take place at Chicago’s Smart Bar all March long.
The series—its name is a reference to Daphne, a figure in Greek mythology, as well as electronic music innovator Daphne Oram—will serve as a celebration of Women’s History Month, and the club has “a month full of reminders that women always have been and always will be central to dance and electronic music culture” in store. It’ll feature a range of national and international talent, along with some local favorites. Regular Smart Bar nights like Planet Chicago, Oktave, Hugo Ball and Queen! will be involved.
DAPHNE will also involve free workshops at the club, discussing topics like DJ mechanics and hardware. So far, one has been announced on the 13th, at 8 PM, with Erika, The Black Madonna, Sassmouth and Samone. More events, including Queen! nights, are still in the works, but the finale has already been planned: an evening with Superjane—AKA DJ Colette, DJ Heather, DJ Lady D and Dayhota—on Friday the 27th.
Tickets to most Smart Bar events are available on RA.
